- When reading remember you don't need to understand every word. Read it through to understand the concept of the text and then go back and concentrate on the words you don't know.
- Watch DVDs rather than live TV, because if you don't understand any of the dialogue you can stop and go back to it and play it again. Also, you can have the option of subtitles and can read the dialogue as well.
- Practice. Practice. Practice. Try to use and listen to English as much as you can. I always recommend for my students to listen to the radio and the BBC.

- Listen to music. It's very important and also very fun, and when it's fun it's very easy to learn.
- Don't be afraid to make mistakes. The more mistakes you make the more knowledge you get. Be like children, they don't think about mistakes, they just talk. Talk simple, don't be afraid to be stupid, it's very useful.
- Watch movies or even cartoons. Language in cartoons is very simple and it makes the learning process easier and funnier.
- Forget that you are going to learn the language. Your fuse "I need to learn English" is enough for a couple of weeks. But if you are going to bake a cool dessert for your boy(-girl)friend and open a blog of James Oliver in English, this is another matter.
- Forget about the alphabet! Don't start learning the language with a tedious memorization of the alphabet. You need to fall in love with the language and get your portion of dopamine until your motivation has escaped into the bushes.
- Burn the bridges of retreat! You need something that will help you through this step. For example, an entry for an interview with a foreign company or a paid fee for an international exam!
